Also, during the cooling process, the fast crystallization of the HDPE could distort the dimension of the vulcanized rubber domains. It was also found that, in the case of phenolic modified polyethylene as shown in Fig. 3, lower viscosity of the HDPE during the dynamic vulcanization of MNR, and the amount of interaction between the interface of the vulcanized rubber domains and the HDPE matrix, produced smaller vulcanized rubber domains. The size of the vulcanized rubber domains correlated well with the mechanical and set properties of the TPVs given in Table 4. According to the results in Fig. 2and Table 4, it is clear that the TPV with PhHRJ-PE compatibilizer exhibited the best overall properties. This corresponds to the smallest size of the dispersed vulcanized rubber particles in the SEM micrographs shown in Fig. 3.
