Daimler-Benz adhesion test showed that the adhesion of boride
layer on boro-tempered ductile cast iron decreased with the increase
in boriding time and increased with increasing tempering
temperature. Boro-tempering heat treatment increased wear resistance
of ductile cast iron. While wear rate of boro-tempered ductile
iron decreased with increasing boriding time, there is no a significant
effect of tempering temperature on wear rate. Generally, wear
occurred in the vicinity of graphite spheres. The boride layers on
the graphite spheres fractured because of fatigue loading and wear
debris caused to abrasive wear.
