Of the 30 participants in each group at the beginning, five participants in the experimental group and two in the control group dropped out during the study. The majority of attrition was ascribed to medical reasons. Only one participant complained of time constraints and could not complete the minimal requirement of 75% participation. Eventually, 25 participants in the experimental group and 28 control participants completed the study.
Baseline Participants' Characteristics
The average age of the experimental and control groups were 58.8 and 60.6 years, respecti vely. The control group had greater body weight, body mass index and quadriceps mu scle strength of the right leg (right knee extension peak torque) than the experimental group (p < .05). No stati stical difference between group s in other ba selin e assessment s was detected (Table 1).
