Despite widespread descriptions of hospitality and tourism work as “low skills” there is little doubt that there is room for talent and its development within the sector. Talent, inthiscontext,isinterpretedinitsbroadestchurchsense,toensurethatthesectorisableto recruit, retain, support and develop personnel of the highest quality appropriate to the diversityofworkandemploymentsituationsthatexistwithinthesector.Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PWC) (2007) paint three scenarios from the predominantly corporate, multinational “blue environment” where the management of talent focuses on hard businessrequirements, througha “green context” dominated byresponsiblecorporations to a world dominated by small to medium-sized businesses, an “Orange World” where talent is interpreted in more eclectic and contextual terms.
