Assuming that the quota is filled with about 100 Thd T being caught in January 2016, total North/
Centre landings for the year 2015 would then reach only 3.57 Mn T, which is one of the “lowest” catch levels
of the past ten years (graph 3). Finally, assuming a decent but still low catch of 100 Thd T in the south (as per
Nov. 1st only 42 Thd T had been landed), we now project total landings in Peru just under 4.0 Mn T (actually
3.95 Mn T), ahead of the years 2010 (other El-Niño period), 2012 and 2014. Not bad for a very difficult year.
But still short of the 5.0 Mn T objective that many producers have in mind to be considered a “good
year” (graph 4).
