As a student-athlete, one automatically realizes a larger responsibility in their academic career. Therefore, why would testing student-athletes at the high school level be wrong? It is a privilege to play a sport; drugs should not be an issue. If a school wants to give a random drug test, let them do it. It really is their business to keep student-athletes clean of all drugs. When an athlete joins a team they commit to everything about that team including the school guidelines. When a student joins an athletic team they have different responsibilities than other students. They are expected to play to their full potential without drug-infested bodies. In the past, there have definitely been issues with athletes doing drugs. If the athletes know they are going to be tested "randomly", then the drug usage is likely to decrease. Many people feel drug testing is an intricate tool in ensuring that student-athletes are not violating their privilege as an athlete; others feel it is violating their right of privacy.
