It is instructive that when Paul says he prays, he is praying to the “Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name” (v. 15).
God did not search for an apt metaphor or analogy to describe His relationship with us and merely stumble upon family as a good fit.
In fact, it was the other way around. God created the family institution to be a reflection of His love for us.
When families follow God’s ways, they serve as living, breathing reminders of the Gospel.
It should therefore not surprise us that love is the key word here—that we might be rooted and established in it, grasp it, and know it. It is all about love.
