The ten members states have agreed that political stability and long term economic growth could only beattained if they all cooperate (ASEANCharter). However, with the expansion of Cambodia,Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam (CLMV), political andeconomical disparities have ensued between the oldand the new member states. Moreover, thedevelopment gap among the member states in theregion has also persisted. The challenges of theCLMV countries and the role of development partnerwill be discussed and examined.
