Three Questions to Ask during an Interview:
I think this video was way too short, and I personally feel there should be a workshop done on questioning the employer during an interview. This is very important, because based on my experience, questions have allowed me to get comfortable with the employer and I sincerely believe that employers will be intrigued and hopefully remember you, since you took the initiative to understand exactly what you’re getting into. I thought that the question “Why did the last person leave this position?” is a fair question, however, I don’t think that should be the first thing asked. The reason is because, if there was an incident that caused an employer to be fired or quit, the now comfortable conversation can turn into an awkward silence, because I personally, wouldn’t know where to go from there. Recently, I applied to be a Residential Assistant on SUNY Oswego campus. This job consists of instilling safety within the dorms, and implementing programs to get residents/students involved in their dorms. I went through an interview process, where there were 4 interviewers and it was nerve racking due to 4 people looking at me. Thankfully, I had prepared questions for the staff, for example: “How do you balance being a Residential Assistant and a student?” I also mentioned, “How does a Residential Assistant maintain authority with residents, but friendships as well?” This allowed the Resident Assistants to warm up to me and you could tell they really enjoyed the job.
