The FPS-R was used occasionally with younger children:
Went to get a faces pain scale and explained to the child how it was used. The child pointed to the zero pain face. The nurse said so you have zero pain. (Case 4, Nurse 9)
As there was no behavioral tool available on the ward, nurses sometimes recorded a “B” for “behav- ioral”indicators on the flow chart but did not provide any information about the child’s pain score. This was particularly evident in Case 10, where on 12 occasions his painscore was recorded as“B”with no additional explanation.
