You'd known Hibari for eight years. People thought you were crazy, hanging around such a violent man for so long. But, then again, you were no flower yourself. You could keep up with the strength of Hibari Kyouya, if you really wanted too. But, being protected and cared for by a devil with an angels body was just so much more satisfying. So, you kept healthy, able to run long distances quickly and jump particularly high, but you kept your strength to a minimum. Of course, you could fend off an attacker if you really had to.
Not that you ever did.
After all, befriending the 10th Vongola family's boss and his friends had some perks. One example being extremely handsome bodyguards. Handsome and incredibly nice. Which is why you were surprised to find yourself falling for the most violent and rude man you had ever known.
Hibari Kyouya. But he was just so COOL. And exceedingly, almost unnecessarily good looking. He and his little chicks an porcupines could invade your mind any day.
So, you began to watch him. Not in a creepy stalker way, but from afar. Casually. Then you would talk to him. Brief and compact, that's all. The way he liked things, no strings attached. No annoying feelings or emotions. Pure business conversation.
Until you decided to be greedy. Then you would say hi to him, just randomly. For fun. For yourself. You made sure to have the contact gradual. A 'hey' here and a 'bye' there. Then you'd try and spend some time with the man. Conveniently being on the rooftop when he showed up, joining Tsuna and his buddies in their good fight. You still saw him twice a week or less, but you were happy. Maybe even blissful.
And then he would talk to you. Well, that might be considered a bit of an exaggeration. He would call you herbivore, and grunt a noncommittal grunt when you asked him (politely of course) what it is that he wanted. In fact, there were times when you thought he would actually show up simply because you were alone. But that was crazy. It couldn't be. Right? But eventually you became the closest person to that drifting cloud.
And that's how you end up here. Seven years after your grand scheme to get close to the man and still you were sitting with him on a roof. You feel nostalgic and there are some moments that the only thing keeping you from slipping and thinking that this was high school was the beautiful suit that Hibari currently adorns. He is quite fetching, even though you know he is uncomfortable.
And Hibari looks so peaceful. With a light almost-smile and eyes closed, he had fallen asleep on you again. You were sure. Sighing, you shifted so his head rested in a more comfortable position on your lap. You brushed his hair out of his pretty face.
'It has been so long,' you thought, 'And still nothing has changed.'
And you so wanted a change. Thinking about it, you were almost disgusted with how this relationship was. It wasn't as if you wanted Hibari to change his whole personality for you. You only wanted something meaningful. Something small but important. Something with... Commitment.
"Hey Hibari. Let's get married."
Five words. Five words that could change everything. Just like how you wanted. But as soon as they were out you wished you could eat them right up. You felt nervous and anxious. But that was silly! He was sleeping! You sighed again. Maybe it was better for everything to remain the way it was. So why did you feel so empty? You carefully laid Hibari's head down on the pavement and left quietly. You just couldn't be around him anymore.
You did your best to avoid Hibari for the rest of the day. You told everyone you were very busy and could not be disturbed for the remainder of the day. You got all of your work done before it was necessary, you cleaned your entire house and even say down to pay the bills and reply to all the mail that had piled up over the past few months. Grocery shopping and running errands were last on your list. Pretty soon you had nothing left to do but ponder your relationship with the object of your affections like a teenaged girl.
You knew that your pondering was useless. You began to feel restless again, so you stood up and grabbed your coat. Making your way to the door, you questioned whether you needed a scarf, but quickly decided no and left.
