Just in time and Factory organization
One approach to JUst in time is to change from the traditional factory layout to cells or work cells. A cell is responsible for the entire production of one product or part, or a family of very similar ones. A traditionally organized factory may have a cutting department where all cutting is done and a drilling department where all drilling is done, but arrangement places one cutting machine and one drilling machine in each cell. Every worker in the cell is trained to perform multiple tasks, so labor is easily shifted to the point in the cell where it is needed. The cell's workers can be evaluated and rewarded a team rather than as individuals to promote cooperation and self-policing of problems All workers are responsible for product quality, bec the same workers do everything from initiating each delivery of materials from vendors to inspecting the cell's final out put: every worker becomes an inspector.
