From a governmental point of view, cooperation with manufacturing
companies is a necessity, so as to design preventive strategies
of disposing waste mobile phones into landfills and at the
same time promoting local electronic collection places. Moreover,
governments in all developed countries should establish, by law,
the design of electronic products that are easily recycled, obliging
at the same time mobile phone companies to recycle their own
products at their own industrial recycling units. Laws should be
legislated that will ensure a market for recycled materials, thus
allowing recycling units (both independent and subsidiaries to mobile
phone companies) and industries to develop. In this way material
recovery will be maximized and electronic recycling will be
ensured. Moreover, providing discounts in new phones in exchange
with obsolete ones can stimulate consumers into thinking
and acting in terms of recycling.
