Rice is Thailand's most important crop, not only because it is economically benefitted to the country, but rice is also the staple diet of the people of Thailand and most Asian countries. Therefore, rice has many important roles in Thai society from food to work. Rice uses over half of the farmable land area and labor force in Thailand. The rice farmer is, thus, an important occupation that goes back hundreds of years; and being honor as the backbone of the country.
Next group of Thai farmers who are the second major workforce for country’s income is the rubber tapper. Rubber is the main cash crop in the southern areas of Thailand. Nowadays, the land for the rubber crop extended to the east and the northeast of Thailand. Thailand was the world’s largest supplier by 1992: rubber contributed 23 percent of Thailand’s agricultural exports; with 31 percent of the world market for natural rubber. At present, Thailand remains one of the top rubber suppliers to the world market.
