Moving forward
To address the fluid nature of industry conditions, the
Government issued guidelines on OSHMS in 1999.
These guidelines were adopted from the ILO-OSH
2001 standards and further tailored to suit the needs for
different industries. A revision to the Industrial Safety
and Health Act in 2006 further required employers to
voluntarily conduct risk assessments. To assist employers,
collaterals were developed to inform them of the changes
and guide them in conducting risk assessments. The
Government began subsidizing training programmes to
train SME personnel to conduct risk assessments.
