Additionally, no obvious differences were found in the development of the cavity in cv. Tamara stems that had bent by day 7 of vase life and stems that had not bent yet. In an experiment carried out in the summer, the diameter of the cavity, measured 15 cm below the floral head, was 3.6 ± 0.5 in non-bent stems (n = 4) and 3.5±0.3 in bent ones (n = 6). The upper end of the cavity was also at the same place beneath the floral head (about 1.5 cm), in stems that had bent and those that had not (data not shown).
