Step 2.1: Consider Diversity. The framework of SharonWescheider-Cruse [49] provides awhole person perspective that is typically applied to disability adjustment. This approach is entirely consistent with every major tenet of rehabilitation philosophy and the “whole person” concept in particular. However, Wegscheider- Cruse’s framework also has application in understanding
a consumer’s cultural identity. If total adjustment to a disability involves achieving balance in the domains of physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social, and volitional functioning; then understanding who a consumer
is culturally might be enhanced in consideration of these same six areas. Using this orientation would suggest the following points of discussion in exploring
a consumer’s cultural identity using the Three-factor Model interview
