The entire process requires about an hour; the donation itself, about ten minutes.
Autogeneic patient-donors may generally give blood as frequently as twice per week
during the six-week period preceding the anticipated transfusion date. The last deposit
may be made no later than three working days before the anticipated surgery. (Note: If
blood needs to be shipped outside New York State, the last donation generally needs to
be made no later than ten working days before its anticipated use.)
