Nescafé has to find ways to deal with environmental pollution. Therefore, they convert waste into energy and use alternative energy that is environmentally friendly. Their efforts have focused on the local level, especially on the environment and needs of each local community.
Nescafé’s project for responsible coffee production has impacts on the environment and society. The goal is to create environmental impacts to a minimum, while creating value to society. The production of coffee has an impact on the environment and society. By trying to reduce energy and water use they can reduce greenhouse gas emissions efficiently. Moreover, they use more recycled materials and reduce the weight of packaging. They use coffee grounds as fuel instead of disposing of waste at a landfill. In Chile 2003, Nestlé has decided to switch from coal to natural gas in order to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide. After the factory inspection by the UN in July 2005, Nestlé reduced its carbon dioxide emissions by up to 20,000 tons per year. In the future there will be continued development for the plant to use natural gas instead of other energy further increases.
