At integral, the consultant reward system was based on both case-project success(noted above) and individual contribution. As in most consulting firms, however, the impact on billable hours was the ultimate measure of success. Nancy confrey, a senior information technology consultant, explained, “you don’t want to do anything that could get in the way of billable time.” Anything that you put into this effort is regarded as overhead. People get yanked off this project [working on KM]. . .If we can make KM somehow billable to the client, that’s terrific and everyone will be doing it.”
