Myths and Reality Most students have a myopic view of marketing or selling. The quick response to identifying oneself as a salesperson is Do you sell used cars? The fact is that most salespersons perform a meaningful, worthwhile occupation. They solve problems for people with their products. They satisfy needs with services. Unfortunately, the salesperson is not seen in this real capacity but as something less. As Mick Jagger of Rolling Stones said, when asked about his chosen career, My mother has always been unhappy with what I do. She would much rather I do something nicer, like be a bricklayer.
