This Act allows the government to frame rules for prohibiting the destruction of fishes in inland water or within coastal territorial waters. It bans use of current jal for fishing purposes. It also prohibits the destruction of fish by the poisoning of waters or the depletion of fisheries by pollution, trade effluents or otherwise. The Protection and Conservation of Fish Rules of 1985, enacted under the Act of 1950, regulate the licensing of fishing in marine waters. However, the jurisdiction of this instrument is limited from the 18.29 m depth line to the limit of territorial waters. This excludes shallow waters where shrimp fry catching occurs
