Abstract
There are lots of theory and strategies of early education in elementary school. This report
picks up one of the concept, which is called “Cooperative Leaning”, then observed an
American Public Elementary School in Foster City, California. Compared to the Japanese
elementary school, the American teacher often divided her classroom into several small
groups, and then, the children competed and solved their problems in groups. There is also a
cooperative learning in Japan, but it tends to be used in the case of learning their social skills
in small groups. In America, “Cooperative Leaning” strategy is much more used even in a
math class, which is known as one of the core subjects than any other subject. The children
can also get some rewards after they finish or win their task, which makes them more
confident, positive, and determined in their classroom.
