Global education creates challenges because it's likely that you have minimal influence over the specific curriculum in your classroom. But this is a reminder that every chance you get, go global in your thinking. Talk to your students about the planet as a whole as much as you talk to them about their neighborhoods. Use examples that raise awareness, and give students a better understanding of the world outside of your classroom. You can create a microcosm of the world in many ways. Some teachers do so through cultural fairs, special units, guest speakers, or using micro city simulations. The bottom line is this: your classroom might be in Kansas, but we all have to be thinking global.
