Our present results suggested that there may be some differences in the biosynthetic production and/or metabolic processes of fatty acids in men and women. In addition to -6-desaturase, as mentioned above, other enzymes responsible for the production or metabolism of unsaturated fatty acids may be involved in the observed sex-based differences in serum GLA and DGLA concentrations.
