Job Duties for a Director of Nursing
Job Summary:
The Director of Nursing Services is responsible for directing, planning, coordinating and supervising the effective and efficient use of health and medical related services for the Northwest region.
Essential Job Functions:
• Leads, directs, and monitors the delivery of health care and related health and medical services. Provides direct supervision to nursing staff in the region.
• Plans, develops and implements procedures and policies that enhance the quality of life for people receiving services and assures procedures that support people managing their own health care.
• Provides leadership to assure compliance with local, state and federal regulations, and nursing practice standards.
• Provides effective and efficient budget management that assures the best utilization of resources.
• Provides effective staff management (hiring, development, training, performance feedback, etc.) that assures utilization of personnel to best meet the needs of the people receiving supports and services. Evaluates service needs and staffing requirements to assure needs of people supported are met.
• Develops and implements health care related training that assures the best possible delivery of health related supports and services. Reviews training at least annually and makes modifications as needed.
• Develops and maintains documentation systems for continuity of care and record storage that assures compliance with local, state and federal regulations and Bethesda Lutheran Communities policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities (if applicable)
• Provides direct supervision of registered nurses in the region.
State Licensing Requirements
• Must possess and maintain a valid Registered Nurse license from the State of Oregon or Washington
Minimum Job Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Baccalaureate Degree
• Prefer at least two years in a supervisory or administrative position; experience in community based nursing in one of the following: geriatrics, rehabilitation/restorative nursing, psychiatric nursing or intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
Certificates, Licenses or Registrations
• Registered Nurse license from Oregon or Washington.
Physical Demands
• Must have ability to travel among assigned sites; must be able to assist with a two-person lift of an adult; must be able to do frequent bending and lifting; and must be able to stand for eight (8) hours at a time.
