PART I LISTENING COMPREHENSION (20 minutes)
THE FOLLOWING SHOULD BE READ TO THE STUDENTS CLEARLY
AND IN NORMAL SPEED. REMEMBER READ ONLY ONCE.
1 “Passengers with connecting flights, please proceed to gate #C4.”
2 Would you like to come to my house for dinner on Sunday?
3 Why don’t we go to the play rehearsal together this evening?
4 You must be very careful since it is wet and slippery.
5 I didn't do my homework because I didn't understand it.
6 I didn’t want to miss school yesterday especially my favorite class, Drama.
7 I'm afraid the meat is spoiled.
8 I’m taking you to a special place you’ve never been before. Don’t worry
about it, okay. It is my treat.
9 Can you do me a favor? Keep an eye on my purse please, I need to go to
the toilet.
10 There are a lot of people here at the conference and you are not sure
whether the seat in front of you is available.
11 You overslept. I’ve told you so many times your clock doesn’t work. It is
time to get a new one.
12 In YES school, only students and teachers are allowed to use the school
library.
13 Tom is not free to do his homework now. He’ll do it later.
14 – 15 My parents have promised to send me to Europe. If I pass the University
entrance examination this year. With this kind of motivation, how can I not
study hard?
16 – 19 Noriko Okada from Japan recently came to South Miami Senior High
School. However, school has not been a struggle for her. She is even
taking advanced chemistry and continues to maintain straight A’s in all her
classes. She has made an impact on the students and their families. On her
birthday, several of the students threw her a surprise party, complete with
cake, ice cream, balloons and of course, gifts.
20 – 24 Hi, my name is Jennifer. I am a college student in Los Angeles. I’m onehalf
Korean and one-half Chinese. My first language was actually Chinese,
even though I was born in America. I now know English a lot better and
I’m open to learning more languages, probably Japanese and Thai. Please
email me if you can to Jennifer@hotmail.com
