Directions: Read the following passage and choose the best answer
The American bald eagle, the United States national bird, is now an endangered species. Why is the bald eagle becoming rarer? Despite the law against hunting them, eagles are still tempting targets for hunters because their large size. Eagles nest in large open areas, near lakes or along the sea, because their principle source of food is fish. These areas, water, are becoming overpopulated and eagles are easily frightened away. Eagles also suffer from the widespread use of pesticides. Insecticides contaminate their food making the eagle unable to produce eggs with strong shells. As result, many of the eggs break before they have a chance to hatch properly. To save bold eagles from extinction we must protect their nests, preserve open spaces, refrain from hunting, and discontinue the use of dangerous chemicals.
