Creativity will never be fully understood if we view it as problem solving, it will only manifest in products (that come late in the day, if at all, in many creative efforts), and if deviance (statistically speaking) is excluded. The trick is to recognize that creativity is a form of deviance and then determine how and why it is sometimes used in a benevolent way and sometimes in a malevolent way. Once that is determined, efforts can be directed at encouraging the former and discouraging the latter. My suggestion in this chapter was to focus on intentions and decision making when encouraging creativity. Tolerance also was recommended. Clearly, there are ways to support creativity that is likely to be benevolent and unlikely to be malevolent.
