Through market research,P&G found that Japanese consumers wanted detergents with stronger cleaning power,so the company developed and launched bleach-reinforced and antibacterial versions of its Ariel detergent in Japan. Both have been very successful, helping to take P&G's share of the Japanese laundry detergent market up to 20 percent by the early 2000s.
