The requirements and criteria for selection of the best location for a Jet Airport were defined in Sections 4.2.1 and 4.2.2. They included distance to Bangkok’s business and commercial centres, availability of a sufficient area of land, access to air space and environmental factors. The facilities and services required within the Airport were defined in Section 4.3 and the proposals for design concepts for airside and landside infrastructure and facilities were developed in Section 4.4.
This section of the proposal considers the construction projects that are needed to complete the Jet Airport and how they are integrated in an overall conceptual framework for implementation for implementation. In this section consideration is also given to implementation cost, the length of time needed to implement the Jet Airport project and the potential for phased implementation.
The analysis of potential demand indicates the number of general aviation and business aviation flights that the new Jet Airport must have sufficient capacity to handle. It will also enable an assessment of the number of passengers that will need to be handled by the passenger terminal. That will determine the capacity of the passenger terminal, the number and size of private lounges and the viability of supporting activities such as catering.
It will also provide an indication of the numbers of business jets and smaller private aircraft that are likely to be based at the Airport. These considerations will determine the number of aircraft apron parking spaces that are required and the floor space of covered accommodation in hangars that will be needed.
An assessment of the existing general and business aviation maintenance sector in the Central Region of Thailand and projections of growth in demand for general and business aviation and aircraft maintenance will provide an indication of the scale of aircraft maintenance development needed in the new Jet Airport in the opening year and in future years.
This therefore provides the information necessary to define the scale of infrastructure needed at opening year and the additional infrastructure that will need to be provided in future phases of development in future years. It also determines when later phases of development (expansion) of the Airport should take place.
