With the arrival of the 1990s, Toyota was facing questions about what will be required for cars in the 21st century, and what sort of vision the company should have to
respond in this new era. Started in 1993, the first response
the company made was a project called ‘‘G21’’, followed
by the 2nd ‘‘G21’’ project a year later. In this project, Toyota brought together 10 engineers from 8 different technical areas to form a temporary cross-functional team
(CFT). In car development, various skills are required to create a new vehicle - body design, engine design, production
technologies and so forth.
