In Experiment 1, 2-year-olds and adults were presented with a feature memory task and a shape
bias task. This experiment was designed to examine the developing ability to remember and retrieve
perceptual features of objects across time. In particular, this experiment sought to elucidate whether
differences in memory performance were related to learners’ shape bias. Thus, this experiment examined
memory and categorization during the onset of the shape bias, generally starting at around
24 months of age (e.g., Landau et al., 1988; Gershkoff-Stowe & Smith, 2004), and during adulthood,
a time period when nearly all learners demonstrate a persistent shape bias
