Besides the effects on politics and education, the integration of the 10 ASEAN countries also contributes to the effects on economy in both positive and negative aspects. The good point is that the unity of the market and production leads to the implementation of united trade rules for all member countries. This leads to the association of economy and trade among the member countries. The association will make the region stable and prosperous and lead to the well-being of people in the member countries. Therefore the economy of the member countries can compete with those in other regions. However for the success of this purpose, the effective operation and incorporation are necessary. The disadvantage of ASEAN economy is that the levels of economic development of ASEAN countries are very different. In some member countries, such as Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand, their economies are weak because majority of the people in the countries are still very poor. The association of the countries as ASEAN will not be successful if the gap between the poor and the rich in the region cannot be reduced.
