Winter is here! The 2014/15 Korean ski season kicked off today with flares, KPop, banners and snowmobiles. And that just for starters!
Yongpyong Ski Resort and Phoenix Park Ski Resort were off and racing today, neck and neck to be first resort in Korea to open officially in Korea for the 2014/15 snow season. And the line honours can only be declared a tie! Now before you go rushing up to the resorts for some powdery runs, we must tell you that both of the resorts have only opened their bottom green runs and with artificial snow while laying in wait for the real stuff to bucket down. The Korean peninsular has only had a whisper of snow so far and the first big snow falls are most likely at least ten days away. We here at Korea Snow have been watching the KMA website (Korean Meteorological Administration) intently every day and have noticed that the temperarture is starting to drop significantly. This can only mean a couple of things: 1. The ski resorts can start to make some snow to build up their bases and 2: the cold pressure systems are soon to start forming over over Siberia and sweep across China and the Yellow Sea to dump beautiful snow acrooss the alps. It's been dumping in Europe so it's gotta be coming soon. It's close, oh so close!
So enjoy the Korean celebrations and fanfare, sharpen those edges on your skis and snowboards, get yourself some bright and colourful snow gear and get ready for what should be amazing 2014/15 Korean snow season. And see you in on the slopes
