Exfoliation and Cleansing
After soaking, the patient puts one foot on the
nurse’s lap and the entire foot is exfoliated with the
dry washcloth. Rub the cloth briskly between the toes,
around nail beds and heel, pushing off dead skin. Be
gentle in areas that are irritated or infected. Some
patients are ticklish, if so apply firmer pressure to
these areas, avoid the areas, or have the patient rub
these sensitive areas. After the second foot, add
water and a small amount of soap to the cloth and
clean the foot thoroughly.
