This case study examines the information systems for drop-ship order fulfillment of a business-computing supplier. (In drop-shipping, the retailer doesn’t stock goods but transfers customer orders to independent distributors.) This case study illustrates some of the typical activities in systems development. Ask students what these PC Connection had to do to plan the information system (evaluating alternative solutions, determining requirements, etc.) What were organizational changes that had to be made to implement the new system?
