Resilience must also be viewed in terms of developmental appropriateness. One
way to conceptualize this construct is to choose adaptive behaviors that are
developmentally salient for a particular age group. At-risk toddlers, for example,
may be considered resilient if they display secure attachment to care givers or
develop autonomous functioning in the context of distress and disaster (Luthar,
Cicchetti and Becker 2000).
