Uneven-aged forestry using selection cuttings is prac
tised in some restricted areas with low economic value.
On some undrained peatlands and in remote areas of
Lapland, low soil fertility and low wood production can
sometimes be optimal for using uneven-aged management.
The selection of the most valuable stems and investing as
little as possible for regeneration is sometimes the only way
to keep the income higher than the costs. The same method
is valid also in urban forests, where the changes in the
landscape should be minimized.
