Conducting a JSA can be useful in assessing new or existing work environments. Whenever a significant change occurs to the process, equipment, or layout of a work area, a JSA should be initiated to evaluate any associated safety hazards. In addition, a JSA may be used to evaluate an area where a Recordable Accident or Near Miss has occurred to analyze the issue and to prevent further incident. Finally, periodic JSA's should be conducted throughout the facility to proactively detect and correct any safety concerns (for example, a site may conduct JSA's across the plant on a yearly basis).
