CE Marking
Low Voltage Directive
Let us assist you with marketing safe products all over Europe!
CE Marking is a mandatory (legally required) mark for any product that falls within the scope of a European
Directive, and is intended for sale in the European Market.
CE Marking is not a certification or approval, but a manufacturer’ declaration that the product meets the essential
requirements of the applicable directives.
You may found a list of all European Directives for CE marking on the web site
http://www.newapproach.org/Directives/DirectiveList.asp
Important Notice:
Remember that CE Marking includes both safety and electro-magnetic compatibility testing.
Visit our EMC page for more information.
The Low Voltage Directive (LVD) 2006/95/EC:
*
“The Directive 2006/95/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 December 2006 on the
harmonisation of the laws of Member States relating to electrical equipment designed for use within certain
voltage limits (codified version)”.
Published on 27.12.2006.
Entered into force on 16.01. 2007
(the old Directive 73/23/EEC was repealed on the same date).
(*) Important Notice:
The old LVD code 73/23/EEC was changed to 2006/95/EC (due to codification).
No changes in the text itself have been made.
Remember to update your Declaration of Conformity with the correct LVD code number 2006/95/EC.
The Low Voltage Directive covers electrical equipment designed for use with a voltage rating of between 50 and
1000 V for alternating current and between 75 and 1500 V for direct current (referring to the electrical input or
output voltage, not to voltages that may appear inside the equipment).
SII Electrical Safety Branch can assist you with ensuring that your equipment meets
the Low Voltage Directive requirements:
Providing detailed explanations of the LVD requirements
Assistance with selecting applicable standards for your product
Product reviews and pre-certification testing
Assistance with preparation of technical documentation required by LVD
(Product Technical File and Declaration of Conformity)
Professional training and technical support
