A thermosyphon heat pipe heat exchanger, with no wicks, acting in association with the cooling
coil can be used in conjunction with an air-conditioning system. The advantages for the particular
conditions of this work are as follows:
1. Cooling capability for the system enhanced by 20% to 32.7% under the test conditions.
2. The condenser of the HPHE can be used as a reheater to replace the conventional reheater
to perform relative humidity control where air delivery is required below 70% relative humidity.
When relative humidity of the delivered air is more than 70%, a supplementary reheater may also
be required.
3. However, a HPHE increases pressure losses, manufacturing cost, and overall size of the
air-conditioning unit.
