I understand that Mr Yut is now too embarrassed to attend a meeting.
Let me give my version of events and a little background. For 20 years after quality dying with a degree in Mechanical Engineering I ran a business where amongst other activities we reconditioned Diesel engines. For the last 25 years I have owned a business designing and manufacturing safety critical products that we supply internationally. Now semi retired I enjoy boat ownership and sailing and since buying Prashanti last year have been working on improvements to make her safer; more relevant able and more fun. A floating home in the sun. It has long been been agreed that there would be a major programme of work and SEA have been involved and provided valuable help and assistance in planning and completing the work. Amazing gnat the many jobs I had planned removal of the sail drives to change rubber seals. To remove these sail drives I was told that it was easier to first remove the engines and this provided the opportunity to clean them, repainted them and attend to any minor faults that weren't apparent when installed. I have a policy of only using approved dealers for any major work but despite my planning I was let down at the last minute by the dealer and was looking at alternatives. It was at this point that Mr Yut was recommended to me by Greg and it was arranged that he would come and look at the job, ostensibly to give me a quote. He instead arrived with mechanics and tools and backed by the recommendation I agreed for him to do the work with no quotation or written agreement. I described the work to him as I described it above and he promised shiny engines. I can't accurately recall the date but it would have been on or around 28th January. I became alarmed the next day when I heard that he had removed the cylinder head gym one of the engines. Way beyond my instructions and I called a halt to the work. After reassurance again that Mr Yut did a good job I relented and agreed that he could remove the cylinder head from the second engine. At this point I wanted to see Mr Yut's workshop to see what he was doing but the earliest that could be arranged was 2nd Feb when I visited with K Det. I was horrified. The engines had been totally dismantled and were spread over the floor of an open sided workshop. I decided I could never trust my life to those engines again and spent that evening and the next day researching alternative solutions. I settled on new engines at considerable expense and called Greg that afternoon to let him know if the decision. Mr Yut was advised the next day but by now he was in full swing with parts being welded, machined and polished all without my approval or knowledge of any costs.
To Mr Yut with his trade contacts the engines may have value - to me that have none now that he's serviced them. The suggestion that he buy the engines from me to cover his costs. I believe I owe Mr Yut the labour cost of removing the sail drives and engines - he in turn should return my property in the condition in which he received it. That is as far as my instructions went and the limit of my commitment to him.
