The 36 km of sandy coastline experienced continual erosion that
affected coastal communities. The communities believed the
erosion was a natural incident that was intensified by human
actions such as shrimp farming, sand mining, and constructions of
ill-designed coastal structures. Historical erosion rate estimated by
overlaying sets of aerial photographs was about 5 m per year. LITPROF
simulations suggested that 5-year return period waves would
erode the beach dune at the rate of approximately 5 m in 24 h.
