Figure 1 shows the percentage of current smokers by school type and by gender. Although smoking prevalence appears slightly lower for medical students, the difference is not statistically significant for either gender (males: 40.7% versus 45.1%, p = 0.14; females: 4.4% versus 6.0%, p = 0.35). Within each school type, however, the difference between male smokers and female smokers is significant (p < 0.001).
