Thereby, following the notations of the Fig. 1, the regional
calibration method enables to estimate the bias of any
altimeter mission flying over the track 3 at the crossover
point B. Indeed, the bias is expressed as the difference
between the SSH measured by the altimeter at the point
B and the SSH measured by the tide gauge at the coastal
calibration site, corrected of the ocean dynamics and by a
term representing the sum of the mean sea surface gradients
between the offshore crossover point and the tide
gauge, following a path through the crossover points
