The findings of the current study should be interpreted
in the context of its limitations. These limitations are:
the small sample size was drawn from a single site,
which limits the ability to generalise. Also, recruitment
via the NGO might give an important bias in sample
selection. The NGO, as a condition of allowing access,
had a veto over who participated. We are not aware of
this veto being exercised, but the restriction may have
limited participation. Without that restriction, the
stories of exploitation might have been even worse than
those reported here. The research also relied on selfreporting,
and there was no way to verify the accuracy
of the accounts of the women’s experiences.
