Moral values and ethics have a great impact on nursing and provision of nursing care. Horton et al. (2007) found that, in a number of studies, moral values play a major role in patient care, are necessary to understand and often linked to job satisfaction or dissatisfaction. Moral values are learned throughout life and for nurses and other professionals, formal ethics education and codes of ethics are a means to safeguard ethical awareness. But this awareness must be actualized in moral actions within the professional practice in accordance with basic ethical principles. Such principles are, for example, the principle of respect for autonomy and the principles of non maleficence, beneficence and justice (Beauchamp and Childress, 2009). But for skilled professionals, ethics is not only a matter of principles.
