A generational shift brings new sets of values
Even though IKEA has come far in terms of CSR, there is always room
for further improvement. Wang Lin thinks that a next step will be to
involve workers and managers in more dialogue, enhancing
communication channels to make the worker’s voice heard. Worker’s
representative committee at the factory is a good platform to engage
worker and management communication. “Today, workers are much
more aware of their rights than 2-5 years ago”, she says, “and law
enforcement has become much better than before.” Working hours,
social insurance, minimum wage, prevention of child labour and
prevention of forced labour are the main areas for IKEA in China when
it comes to workers’ rights.
