Australia, a staunch ally of the United States and its battle against terrorists in Iraq and Syria, announced in April 2016 that it would strip the citizenship of dual nationals convicted of terror-related crimes.
In contrast, French President Francois Hollande in March 2016 abandoned plans to strip French nationality from people convicted of terrorism, climbing down from a tough stance he took days after the November 2015 attacks in Paris that killed 130 people.
